2nd West Nile Case Found in Lower Merion

The two positive tests June 19 came about a mile apart, officials said.

(Updated 6 p.m. Monday)

State and Montgomery County officials on Monday reported the year's second case of West Nile Virus in Lower Merion mosquitoes, this time at the Charles C. Knox Home, a Wynnewood retirement community.

State records show the affected mosquito trap was tested June 19, the same day as a positive test of a trap in the Remington Basin in Wynnewood, which officials reported Friday. The Remington Basin is about a mile southeast of the Knox property.

County spokesman Frank Custer told Patch late Monday afternoon the location of the second positive test and said the county health department will be placing more traps in Wynnewood.

Whether Monday's report will trigger a spraying program is still unknown, Custer said.

Five cases of the virus, all in mosquitoes, were reported in Lower Merion in 2011.
