Bala Cynwyd Burglary Attempts Fail

A home and a business were targeted in separate incidents, Lower Merion police said.

Lower Merion police on Monday reported the following incidents from the past week in the Narberth-Bala Cynwyd Patch area:

Theft: Surveillance video at the Five Guys restaurant in the Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center showed a man stealing credit cards and $300 in cash from a purse hanging on a customer's chair early in Wednesday afternoon.

Retail theft: A 26-year-old Narberth woman was arrested Friday about 11 a.m. at the Penn Valley Acme. Police said she tried to steal a $25 Madagascar DVD.

Attempted burglary: Someone attempted to pry open the side door of a Union Avenue home in Bala Cynwyd about 8:45 p.m. Friday. The homeowner reported hearing noises about that time and going to investigate; she saw no one. Police believe she may have scared off the burglar or burglars by turning on an outside light.

Theft from building: A 20-foot section of copper pipe, worth about $466, was discovered stolen from the Bala Cynwyd Library construction site on Friday, police said.

Attempted burglary: About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police discovered chains had been cut on two gates to the Connelly Containers building on Righters Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd. The owner determined nothing had been stolen.
