Temperatures that started in the teens early Monday and rose only to the mid-20s did not deter more than 40 volunteers who participated in the Martin Luther King Day of Service on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail.

The day's task was clearing brush and debris from the area around the old Barmouth Station at the end of Levering Mill Road, one of the access point to the Trail. Among the volunteers were residents from several Township areas, Boy and Girl Scouts, and students from Bryn Mawr College. 

The 2.5-mile trail starts at the Cynwyd SEPTA Station and runs to Belmont Avenue and Rock Hill Road. Eventually, it will have a spur that will take travelers across the Schuylkill River to Manayunk via the now unused railroad bridge that runs parallel to the Belmont Avenue bridge. The work was a joint effort between the township and the Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, which organized hundreds aid volunteers to help make the trail possible. The entire project is a testament to what volunteers can accomplish.
