Burned-Out Narberth Pizzeria Moves to Bryn Mawr
Sun Valley Pizza owner Ted Pappas still has hope of reopening his Montgomery Avenue location, where he spent 14 years.
A September fire.
An October hurricane.
Perhaps Ted Pappas' new neighbors should prepare for a November landslide, if the elements keep attacking his Sun Valley Pizza restaurant.
"It's been a frustrating month," Pappas told Patch Friday morning from Sun Valley's Bryn Mawr location that opened Oct. 20. "But it's so nice to know that people are standing behind me."
Pappas opened Sun Valley Pizza 14 years ago on Montgomery Avenue in Narberth. On Sept. 19, the pizzeria and catering business abruptly closed after a fire in the basement, and Pappas had to expedite a decision he was already facing.
"We were planning on another location, but when the fire came long we jumped on this right away," Pappas said. "I didn't want to lose our customer base."
So far, so good at 602 Lancaster Ave. in Bryn Mawr, Sun Valley Pizza's new location across the street from Acme. It's the former home of Pizza Palace, whose awning is still up.
The restaurant is run by a staff of 12 and has seating for 40 customers. The operating hours are easy to remember: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. The phone number is the same as the previous spot: 610-667-0500.
Asked whether it was likely that Sun Valley's Narberth location would reopen, Pappas said the outcome his insurance claim and other factors would affect that: "It's likely if everything goes right."

What happened to Pizza Palace? They were a Bryn Mawr fixture.
