Carmine's Creole Cafe Returns To Narberth

John Mims' restaurant is moving into the same place it vacated in 2006.

A sign has recently shown up atop 232 Woodbine Ave. in Narberth that might give longtime borough residents some deja vu. It reads: "Carmine's Creole: Act II."

Chef John Mims, of Daddy Mims in Phoenixville, is returning to Narberth and will reopen his Cajun-style BYOB on April 5, Mims told Patch on Wednesday.

“It’s a great location—the great thing about Narberth is a lot of people walk there, and there’s a lot of foot traffic. A lot of my old customers have been coming out to Phoenixville, so they’re pretty happy they won’t have to drive as far,” Mims said.

Mims, who opened the first Creole Café location in Havertown in 1998 and moved to Narberth in 2004, will be cooking at the Narberth restaurant every day.

The menu is basically the same as it was 10 years ago, Mims said.  One of his favorite items is the Seafood Court Bouillon: crabmeat, shrimp, scallops and crawfish simmered in a spicy tomato broth.

Carmine's Creole Cafe is located at 232 Woodbine Ave. in Narberth, and can be reached at 610-660-0160. The restaurant seats about 44, and will not take reservations.

Starting April 5, its hours will be:

  • Monday-Thursday: 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Friday-Saturday: 5 to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday: 5 to 8 p.m.

Most recently, the space housed Aperto BYOB, and before that, Gemelli.

Have you ever eaten at Carmine's Creole Cafe? Are you happy to see it return to the borough? Tell us in the comments.

My wife and I patronized the Creole Cafe when it was in Narberth. Wonderful food and good service at reasonable prices for same. More expensive than some other restaurants nearby, but a higher end dining experience. Glad they are returning.

We live 1 hour from the old Carmine's and would patronize John's establishment almost every week after doing business in the area. We missed that neighborhood and are so glad he is returning. John, you belong here and in the kitchen. Hope you are going to do the duck...please.

Had dinner there - yum! Warning: menu is mostly seafood based with a couple of beef entrees and a lamb. They will accommodate (nicely) vegetarians and non-beef eaters though so please ask. What a fabulous restaurant!
