The Riggins gas station that closed down in November at Belmont Avenue and Rock Hill Road in Bala Cynwyd has been replaced by a Citgo station.

Regular gas went for $3.85 a gallon at Citgo on Friday. The Sunoco down Belmont Avenue toward the Schuylkill Expressway was pricing regular at $3.89 a gallon.

Why could the owner not choose to be a franchisee of any other company. State owned Citgo operates at the pleasure of Socialist dictator Hugo Chavez. Ask anyone that used to live in Venezuela.

Eh. I don't think our American oil companies overcharging us by at least double and suppressing alternative energy like solar and wind are any better

Evil big oil, eh? State and Federal government taxes each gallon of gasoline approximately 45 cents (depending on the state) for doing nothing. A fully integrated oil company spends an incredible amount of money and time finding, refining, transporting and retailing petroleum. The average profit on a gallon of gasoline was about 22 cents last year.

The 22 cents per gallon profit grossly underestimates the true profits made. Not sure how millions in profit per DAY can be made from that measly figure... But then again I don't have their crafty accountants http://mediamatters.org/mobile/blog/2012/08/03/wsj-op-ed-uses-debunked-exxon-talking-point-to/189117

The gas companies are taxed for doing nothing? Apparently you know nothing about the costs incurred by the state and the federal governments necessary to regulate and remediate commercial petroleum facilities. Mr. Gluck you are extremely naive.

The underestimation was the amount WE are taxed every time we buy a gallon of gas. 50.7 cents per gallon currently in Pennsylvania. The low is 35.2 in South Carolina and the high is shared by California and New York at 67.7 cents per gallon. Lauren, this money is supposed to go the maintain and upgrade the roads, unfortunately in most states it just gets put in the general fund and wasted by the state. I hope that in the worst case it would not cost a state billions of dollars per year to regulate commercial petroleum facilities. Evil big oil pays the cost of remediating their facilities. Fed up, is media matters a biased web site?
