It is scheduled to last until 8 p.m., the Montgomery County Health Department stated in a release.
A Code Red Heat Emergency was issued for Montgomery County as of 12 p.m. Friday, a release from the Montgomery County Health Department stated.
The Code Red, also known as a Hot Weather Heat Warning will be in effect until 8 p.m., the release stated, adding that the warning is issued in anticipation of an "oppressively hot air mass with a heat index of 100 degrees or greater."
Neighbors, friends and family are encouraged to check on very young children, elderly adults and people with chronic medical conditions as they are at an increased risk in the heat.
The county's release encouraged people to drink plenty of water and wear loose fitting clothing as well as attempt to rest in shaded or air-conditioned places.
Most libraries, malls and senior adult activities are air conditioned, the release added.
The Montgomery County Human Services Center in Norristown will also serve as a cooling site during the Code Red Heat Emergency for resident who cannot get to other sites.
