Patch wants to hear from residents of Narberth, Bala Cynwyd and beyond: What should fill the retail vacancies of your neighborhood streets?

Today, we're spotlighting two vacant gas stations, across the street from each other at Belmont Avenue and Rock Hill Road.

Riggins closed in November on the east side of Belmont. The station on the southwest corner of the Rock Hill Road intersection has been closed for years; Lower Merion Township bought the property in 2007.

A developer's proposal to build a CVS pharmacy at the southwest corner has met resistance from township officials.

That property's tax assessment is $380,040. The Riggins property, currently fenced up, is assessed at $153,260.

So tell us in the comments section below: What kind of business would you be most likely to frequent if it moved in to either space? And what other vacancies in town do you have ideas about filling?

ANYTHING except yet another CVS or any other drug store. An outdoor cafe would be amazing for people walking on/off the trail. This is the gateway to Lower Merion it should be welcoming. Forbidden Drive has Valley Green so our trail needs something too!

A cafe, with open air dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner also that has bike rentals, to use on tne trail. If it was nicely landscaped (which perhaps the township could offer as a benefit) maybe we would have some local as well as city restaurant owners interested. That would be a welcomed relief. No more drug stores, we have enough.

I agree with the above suggestions.....something MUST be done with that whole area. It is an eyesore and certainly not a welcoming entrance to beautiful Bala Cynwyd....I am ashamed each time I drive through. I love the idea of a cafe/bike rental area with access to the Cynwyd trail so close.. We must start insisting that the township stop dragging their feet and make some improvement to the whole area.
