Flap Jack Family Restaurant opened for business Tuesday at 115 W. City Ave., roughly three months after IHOP closed down there.

Mohsen Bayouni owned and managed the IHOP for about 25 years and has the same role at Flap Jack, he told Patch in a brief interview Tuesday.

The menu is similar as the IHOP menu, and Flap Jack's staff of 32 is about the same size, Bayouni said. The restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekends.

Flap Jack's phone number is 610-668-9860.

Had dinner at the Flap Jack Family restaurant yesterday and was "blown away"! All new, bright and cheerful decor. The bathroom sparkled. Pleasant staff, though they were all standing around as there were few people dinning. I guess this can happen on opening day. The menus were beautifully designed and had an easy to read layout. PRICES were from 1995! Best value on The Golden Mile. Food was enjoyable. "Chicken soup was as good as mine" said one of my companions. I guess good food takes time to prepare. The 20-minute wait was making my wife squirm a little. The Egyptian owners stopped by to say hello and were very welcoming. They said they owned 7-restaurants. None of us ordered dessert so they sent over a complementary single serving of decorated red velvet cake. A wonderful way to end a delightful, adventurous evening. Can't wait to return.

Ate here and best thing was the food, which isn't saying much. Just so much wrong with this place, it leaves me a bit bewildered. First off, if the IHOP had to close it's doors, what type of rational sense does it make to go and open up IHOP-Lite? So, pulled into the driveway, and each spot has the "FJ" logo painted on it different colors (orange, blue, white, and maybe green), that quite frankly makes the outside of the place look as clownish as the inside. As we were pulling up, the chef was there to greet us, with mop in hand... Why is the chef, the person cooking my food, now cleaning the floors? Walk in, and Orange... Neon Orange... EVERYTHING! "Bright and cheerful"? Give me a break, painful on the eyes more like it. This guy clearly has no idea that there's a giant university of college students right across the street. How would colors that bright really impact a college student who's just pulled an all-nighter? As far as the menu is concerned, it looks like a diner menu... So getting back to my "first off" comment, why didn't he just make the place a diner! "City Line Dine" he could have called it (and still can)! Such disappointment. You know the closest diner by SJU is Llanyark? Too far of a drive. A large percentage of SJU students are from Jersey, and where there's lots of diners, but for some reason, almost impossible to find near SJU. he could have had a real gold mine, but instead I guess he tried to paint it.

Okay, so that was most of the bad. Forgot the part about the toilet that could oscillate like a fan, bad paint job (besides it being bright neon orange), and actual experience of messed up order. But, I will point out the good points as well… The staff was VERY friendly (although there were only 2 people who were actually in the building). And the place appeared to be very clean as well, so that was impressive. But continue to have that orange burned in my mind, and I don’t quite know how I’ll get over that.

Ate breakfast there today. I was pissed off before my meal arrived. The server messed up our drink order. My daughter wanted the funny face pancake. It was a joke. I ordered blintzes and was brought crepes and then told by 2 servers that "that's how we make it". There is several big differences between a blintz and a crepe however they had no knowledge of this. Such a waste of time. Will never go back.

I actually enjoy this place. I go here once a week and enjoy their food and relaxing atmosphere. It is clam and prices are reasonable. I would highly recommend. And yes the colors are bright but I'm guessing that's to get people attention and to stand out. You go there and be the judge
