Is the Schuylkill PA's Best River?

Pa Water Sheds hosts online vote.

Pennsylvania possesses many waterways, but which one is the best?

The Philadelphia area's Schuylkill River competes with other area rivers for the distinction of River of the Year.

Sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers, the 2013 contest pits the Schuylkill against the state's finest.

In an online poll, the Schuylkill currently falls behind the Lackawanna River in Scranton and the Monongahela River in Pittsburgh.

The vote may sound a little silly, but the prize isn't. The top winner receives a $10,000 leadership grant, which will go toward programming, water activities and other events.

Voting continues through Jan. 18. Support the Schuylkill River at http://pawatersheds.org/vote/.

If you're a fan of the Schuylkill, which is the largest tributary in the Delaware River Watershed, you can take the pledge to protect it from natural gas pipelines and other industrial activity.

It's an easy way to get active in the fight to protect our precious drinking water supply.
