Man Charged as Serial Soap Thief

A Bala Cynwyd pharmacy was hit twice in three days, police say.

A Philadelphia man has been charged with stealing $200 worth of soap in three days from the City Avenue CVS, Lower Merion police said Monday.

Herbert Jones, 52, is charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property, both third-degree felonies, according to court documents.

On June 7, a manager at the CVS told police he saw a man shoplift almost $95 in Dove soap. Jones was stopped by police as he exited the store,
arrested and charged with retail theft, according to the police
report.

After the store's surveillance footage from June 5 was inspected, police determined Jones had that day stolen another 11 packages of Dove soap, worth $104. He was arrested again June 12.

Jones is being held in Montgomery County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to court documents.
