GPS Betrays Robbery Suspect, Police Say

Two women were robbed Tuesday night in Bala Cynwyd, police say. A Malvern man is charged with the crime.

A 23-year-old Malvern man was arrested and charged Tuesday night with an armed robbery of two women in Bala Cynwyd, Lower Merion Police Superintendent Michael McGrath said at a Police Committee meeting Wednesday night.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Sevilla Court apartments on Conshohocken State Road around 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 4, McGrath said.  Two female victims reported they had been accosted by an armed man who stole their purses and fled.

Police were able to track the location of one of the iPhones stolen during the robbery, McGrath said.  Officers located a man who fit the description given by the victims, at which point the man was stopped at the CVS at Haverford Road and City Avenue.

The man was identified as Edward McCraw, 23, of Malvern.  Found in his possession was a BB gun resembling a semi-automatic handgun, McGrath said.

McCraw was charged with two counts of robbery with intent to commit serious injury, a 1st-degree felony, along with use/possession of drug paraphenelia and other misdemeanors, according to court documents. He is being held in Montgomery County Prison, awaiting hearing, McGrath said.
