Montgomery Avenue Lane Closures to Last All Summer
Aqua PA is replacing water mains in Bala Cynwyd.
For weeks, drivers have dealt with weekday lane closures on Montgomery Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, at various stretches between Levering Mill and Conshohocken State roads.
The water-main replacement work that has required those closures is expected to last into September, said one official with Aqua PA on Monday.
The pipe work, on Montgomery Avenue and then on some side streets, should last into mid- to late August, said Bill Miller, the company's vice president of network. After that, resurfacing the road will take several weeks.
The work is being done between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays. Regardless of which lanes are closed for various components of the project, traffic is expected to be open at all times in both directions, Miller said.
All lanes will be open Wednesday for Independence Day, Miller added.

And the reason that this kind of work is not being done in the overnight hours is?

I'll see if I can get ahold of Mr. Miller again ... I would imagine visibility (flood lights notwithstanding) is particularly at a premium when replacing water pipes underground, but I don't know what the correct answer is.

That or the noise; they do a lot of drilling that might be conspicuous at night on a stretch of Montgomery with a fair amount of homes.
