The last week of the year is a popular time to head to the movies.

You may want to take a break from the holiday festivities to check out one of the three new movies that open on December 25. There are many other popular films in theaters to choose from as well.

Les Miserables (PG-13)

Moviefone Synopsis: "Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Miserables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever."

Django Unchained (R)

Moviefone Synopsis: "Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles - dead or alive.Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago."

Playing at the following on Dec 25:

Parental Guidance (PG)

Moviefone Synopsis: "Old school grandfather Artie (Billy Crystal), who is accustomed to calling the shots, meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife Diane (Bette Midler) agree to babysit their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents (Marisa Tomei), (Tom Everett Scott) go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane's old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it's learning to bend - and not holding your ground - that binds a family together."

After seeing 2 stage productions I thought the movie was mediocre at best. Crow, Jackman and Hathaway were more of a distraction than an asset. Too many close-up’s and poor singing left me wishing it wasn't almost 3 hours long. I'm sure it will make lots of $$ and have lots of nominations. If you haven’t seen it live by all means go see it. Otherwise I think you will be disappointed.
