Police Blotter: Burglars Target Homes on Newfield Way, Pembroke Road

On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion Township police reported to news media the following crimes and incidents from the Narberth-Bala Cynwyd Patch area in the past week:
- Retail theft: A man stole a bottle of Absolut vodka, valued at $20, from the Wine & Spirits shop on City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, police said. A store employee saw the man put three bottles of alcohol into his jacket, police said, and then told the man he was calling police. Police said the man put two bottles down and was last seen running down 54th Street.
- Burglary: About $5,000 in jewelry was stolen from a home on the first block of Newfield Way in Bala Cynwyd just before noon Saturday, police said. A neighbor told police she saw a white man in his early 20s, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt walking around the property. The man was last seen cutting through properties near St. Asaph's Road, police said. The burglar got away with about $5,000 in jewelry from a jewelry box in the master bedroom, police said, and entered by breaking out a window on a rear door.
- Attempted burglary: A homeowner on the 300 block of Pembroke Road in Bala Cynwyd returned home about 10:00 p.m. Sunday to discover someone had tried to force their way in, police said. There were pry marks on a first-floor window, and laundry room windows had been forced open and a lock broken, police said. It did not appear anyone had entered the home, police said.
