Shifting, But No Major Changes for Local State Rep Districts

Preliminary plan slightly alters those who represent Bala Cynwyd, Penn Valley, Belmont Hills and Narberth in Harrisburg.

If plans in Harrisburg come to pass, state rep districts in Bala Cynwyd, Penn Valley, Belmont Hills and Narberth could shift in 2012, but the status quo will largely stay the same. Following the 2010 Census, state officials analyzed the data and released a preliminary plan for redrawing districts through the state. Current reps would juggle boundaries but the same two districts would represent the area in the General Assembly.

Democrat Rep. Michael Gerber's 148th District will lose parts of Penn Valley, but still maintains most of that territory, if the plans are approved. Additionally, Gerber keeps Narberth and also adds parts of Belmont Hills.

Already split between the city and suburbs, Rep. Pamela DeLissio (D-194) assumes more of the latter in Lower Merion. Dropping her West Philadelphia, Overbrook and Wynnefield city districts, DeLissio adds parts of Penn Valley to the district. In addition to maintaining her Bala Cynwyd foothold, DeLissio drops part of Belmont Hills.

In the Senate, Daylin Leach (D-17) will retain his district with Lower Merion in place. The only change to the 17th District will be a pickup of Blue Bell, within Montgomery County.
