Burglaries Continue: Shotgun, $40,000 in Jewelry Stolen in Bala Cynwyd
Police reported three burglaries this week in Bala Cynwyd.
Three more Bala Cynwyd homes were burglarized in the past week, Lower Merion police said; the police department recently warned that Bala Cynwyd burglaries were on the rise.
The following incidents were reported to news media on Monday by Lower Merion police:
Jewelry Stolen: An unknown amount of jewelry was stolen from a home on the 1600 block of Yale Rd. in Bala Cynwyd between Sept. 15 and Sept. 19, police said. A neighbor who was watching the home while the owners were away reported damage to the front door, and upon investigation by police, it was discovered that the master bedroom had been ransacked and an unknown amount of jewelry stolen, according to the report.
Shotgun, Camera, Pesos Stolen: Over 25 pieces of jewelry, a digital camera, a 12-gauge shotgun and 4,500 Mexican pesos were stolen from a home on the 700 block of Belmont Terrace on Sept. 19, according to police. Sometime between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the front door of the home was forced open and the items removed, police said.
Over $40,000 In Jewelry Stolen: An estimated $42,000 in jewelry was stolen from a Bala Cynwyd residence on Sept. 19, according to police. Sometime on Sept. 19 between 10 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., a burglar or burglars entered a home on the 300 block of Cynwyd Road and removed the following items:
- A diamond engagement ring, valued at $20,000
- Another diamond ring valued at $5,000
- An antique diamond band with leaves on it, valued at $8,000
- A platinum wedding band, valued at $500
- 15 miscellaneous necklaces, valued at $5,000
- Diamond earrings, valued at $1,000
- An opal ring, valued at $750
- A cameo pin, valued at $500
- Ruby and diamond earrings, valued at $1,000
- Precious gems, valued at $1,000
There were no signs of forced entry, though the resident was unsure if she had secured one set of doors at the home, police said.
In other crime news this week, three men face assault charges following a queasy cab ride.
