The Henry Got Crops! CSA, in conjunction with Weavers Way Co-op, Saul Agricultural High School, and the Fairmount Park Commission, will be hosting its second annual Harvest Festival on Sat., Oct. 20, 1-4pm. (Raindate the next day.) It will take place at the farm across the street from the high school, in Roxborough. This gala will feature a broad variety of events and merchandise. These will include child-centered activities, such as hayrides, face and pumpkin painting, pumpkin bowling, a race featuring cars made out of veggies, kids helping to build a scarecrow, and smoothies made with the assistance of a bicycle-powered blender! A petting zoo will star a baby goat and other creatures from the farm's resident livestock. For all ages, there will be a pie-baking competition, a spinning demonstration, and live music by local artists, such as the group Nothing Wrong, folk singer Art Miron, and singer-songwriter Patrick Arkins. If you're hungry and thirsty, there will be produce from the farm and goods offered by food trucks and other vendors: The Spot, (burgers), a Chestnut Hill herbiary, Birds of Paradise (tropical delights), and Shady Apple Goats (cheese and soap). And don't forget last years not-to-be-missed cider doughnuts! Oh, and by the way, the festival will be pet-friendly.
