12th Annual Stamp Out Parkinson's 2013 3k walk

On Saturday, October 12, 2013, Harcum SNAP (Student Nurses Assoc. of PA) members and senior nursing students attended the 12th Annual Stamp Out Parkinson’s 2013 3k walk, located at MLK/West River Drive, Philadelphia PA. The purpose and mission of this event is to raise funds providing financial support to local nonprofits and institutions dedicated to improving the quality of life for Parkinson’s disease patients, their families and caregivers.

During a SNAP meeting, senior nursing student, Nakisha Jones informed us of the Parkinson’s walk and shared her story with us. She stated, “I began doing this to honor my grandmother but once I found out how many people are affected by it, it made me want to increase awareness.” Nakisha (team captain) and her team (Team Jones), raised $1,325 as of today, 10/15/2013. The Stamp Out Parkinson’s 2013 event raised $254, 713.35. During the event, Bethany Emmons, senior nursing student, was also a part of the event, honoring her father.

SNAP members who showed support in the event included Icar Noel (Vice President) and Jacquelyn Miller (Treasurer). It was a successful event and we were happy to walk with hundreds of people who were part of the cause and shared their stories. We hope to spread more awareness on Parkinson’s disease and welcome anyone who would like to be a part of the cause.
