" Gene Shay Presents ... Johnny's Dance Band: Alive & Well at Jamey's House of Music "
"Gene Shay Presents..." is a series of specially chosen mini concerts, hosted by Philly's beloved musical Godfather at Jamey's House of Music. This Saturday, September 28,Gene welcomes back long-time Philadelphia area favorites, Johnny's Dance Band.Their first show at Jamey's, back in February, sold out.
Gene states, "Johnny's Dance Band has always been enormously entertaining, all the whileplaying some outstanding songs, and in so many genres! Their music and show is as uniqueand original as anything you're ever likely to witness."
JDB has sold out and packed houses at every club they've played this year. That includes:World Cafe Live (Philadelphia - Upstairs); Puck Live! (Doylestown); John & Peter's (New Hope);Steel City Coffee House (Phoenixville); and Jamey's House Of Music (Philadelphia).
"We're thrilled about our new sound," says original Johnny's Dance Band member, CourtneyColletti. "Since the addition of our new band-mates, the JDB vocal harmonies sound betterthan they ever have - since the band started !"
New female vocalist / keyboardist / guitarist, Arlyn Wolters ( of The Dukes Of Destiny ) not onlysings up a storm, but her stage presence electrifies an audience. With a degree in Theater Arts, and a bawdy sense of humor, she fits right in with JDB's "Rock 'n Roll Vaudeville" attitude.Arlyn was chosen by Patti LaBelle to be a member of Patti's "Boom Boom Choir".
Johnny's Dance Band's new drummer, Ray Cardona brings a world of diverse musical chopsto the party. He is expert at all the many grooves the group throws his way. But, another greatbonus is his singing!  Tony Juliano, the other original band member, proudly explains, "Raynot only harmonizes expertly, but he is as good a lead vocalist as anyone in the band. He andArlyn's gorgeous voices are the reasons why our harmonies never sounded so good."
At the Jamey's show this Saturday, Courtney Colletti assumes a role he first held with JDBin 1974 ... that of lead guitarist. His skill on the instrument beautifully articulates so many stylesthat his playing is nothing short of awesome. Rock 'n Roll, Country, Folk, Jazz, Bluegrass,Latin, Classical and more ... Courtney does it all. On the bass this Saturday, will be Ron Ward,a long-time partner of Tony's, and highly respected in musical circles throughout our area.
Tony Juliano completes the troupe on guitar, harmonica, and a bit of keyboard. The 100%original repertoire of Johnny's Dance Band is predominately Tony's songwriting; and Courtneyis well represented as well. Tony, Arlyn, Courtney and Ray all share in the lead vocal duties.
The band has always been most well-known for its satirical songs and schtick, punctuated bycharacters, costumes, quasi-choreography and other entertaining wacky stuff. But, this grouphas always been capable of straight forward great songs as well. Both old and new fans havebeen happy to find the band's repertoire is mixed - with both classic JDB favorites, as well ascontemporary new material ... but with that same attitude.
Jamey's is a unique cabaret theater, unlike any venue in the area. Proprietor, Jamey Reilleyhas transformed his family's lovely old stone home into a premier nightspot for live entertainment.State-of-the-art sound is the #1 reason to see a show there. Mr. Reilley brought a lifetime of audioexpertise to bear, and designed a system with which any artist would be thrilled. Formerly knownas The PSALM Salon, Jamey's House Of Music boasts: theatrical lighting & staging; cushionedcomfy seats; BYO & no corkage fee; free soft drinks & snacks; and oriental boxed dinners for sale.Jamey's is located at 5841 Overbrook Ave, Phila., PA 19131, adjacent to St. Joseph's University.
Tickets for Saturday's performance are $20 in advance via Jamey's House Of Music website:http://psalmsalon.ticketleap.com/new-johnnys-dance-band2/   Doors open at 7:30. Showtime 8pm.
