Good News: City Ave. Repaving Done Ahead of Schedule

Traffic lines will be painted Tuesday and Wednesday, PennDOT said.

The following was provided to Patch by PennDOT:

PennDOT’s contractor completed the resurfacing of U.S. Route 1 (City Avenue) between Bala Avenue and Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, two weeks ahead of schedule.

Crews finished paving Route 1 (City Avenue) last Friday night (June 27), two weeks ahead of the anticipated mid-July completion time. Weather permitting, the contractor will paint new traffic lines Tuesday and Wednesday (July 1-2) from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The $2.8 million project to repair and resurface nearly five miles of Route 1 (City Avenue) was the first project to move to construction in the Philadelphia region this year using funds from the state’s new transportation plan, Act 89.

Through the Route 1 (City Avenue) project, which began May 12, PennDOT repaired the road base, removed the former deteriorated riding surface, and repaved the roadway with fresh asphalt. The improvement project includes building new curb ramps at four intersections, an operation that is expected to start in March 2015 and be completed by June 2015.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $2,888,262, which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89.
