All-day benefit expected to raise over $4K

The Whole Foods Market in Wynnewood is holding a special 5 Percent Day on Thursday, Jan. 9 to benefit the Narberth Community Food Bank.  Throughout the entirety of the day, the market will donate 5 percent of all its sales to the food bank.

The event is expected to raise approximately $4,000 based upon previous 5 Percent Days held to benefit other area non-profits.

“(The market and the food bank) have a special relationship and it makes me very proud to work for Whole Foods Market,” said Ruth Harp, Marketing Team Leader with Whole Foods Market. “We do our best to utilize our resources to help people who are hungry.”

While the two entities have worked together before on numerous occasions (Whole Foods Market donates foodstuffs to the bank each Tuesday) this will be the first time that Whole Foods Market has been able to donate money directly to the food bank because the bank has recently attained a 501c3 non-profit designation.

Harp said that Whole Foods Market is happy to have community organizations to support, and is encouraging other 501c3 non-profits interested in having a 5 Percent Day held for their group to fill out an application at the store.
