AGORA

Alexandria, Egypt 391 CE and Hypatia (Rachel Weisz) has followed in her father's footsteps to become the chief teacher int he most prestigious pagan academy in the city that's been the center of learning in the ancient world for over 500 years.  But Alexenadria, like the rest of the ancient world, is changing.  The emperors in Rome and Constantinople are now Christian, and the growing church in Alexandria wants more control over the city and wants to eliminate pagan practices and shut down pagan institutions, particularly ones led by women.  AGORA released in 2009, follows Hypatia's efforts to keep her school in operation and to carry out astronomical research that may upset the worldview of eeryone around her, Christian, pagan and Jew.
