Narberth Borough Council Grants Lease Addendum to Business, Discusses Snow Removal

The Narberth Borough Council permits a change to Crazy Aaron's Putty World.

The Narberth Borough Council approved a lease modification on Monday night for a business in the old Narberth school building owned by a council member.

Council member Aaron Muderick abstained from the vote because he owns Crazy Aaron’s Putty World and the council was deciding whether to grant an addendum to Muderick’s existing Sabine Avenue lease, Borough Council President Mary Jo Daley said during the meeting.

The lease modification will allow Muderick to expand his business space by about 500 square feet, Town Manager William J. Martin said after the meeting.  The 500 square feet will be used for hallway space, storage and a filing area, Martin said.

The council members who partook in the vote approved the lease modification 5-0.

“It’s a five-year lease so that’s a nice thing for the borough,” Daley said after the vote.

In other council business, the discussion turned to snow removal.

The borough spent $5,328.16 on snow removal and $9,145.40 on highway snow aid from the period of Dec. 24, 2010 through Jan. 20, 2011, Council Member Bob Wegbreit said during the Highway Committee’s report to the council.

“We have a pretty good size chunk of salt that we pay for,” said Wegbreit , who is chairman of the Highway Committee.

Daley commended the work that has been done by borough workers this winter to clear the roads after snow storms.  “We really were hit very hard with snow this year,” Daley said.

Daley said her late husband plowed snow so she knew firsthand what it was like to have a loved one called to work during a storm, not knowing how long it would be before he returned home and that when he did return he would be tired.

When the floor was opened to residents who wished to address the council, Narberth resident Dena Kohl said she would like to see large piles of snow removed from street corners after a storm.

Kohl said the borough “did a great job” with snow removal.  “My only concern is the corners, where they pile up,” Kohl said.

Kohl said she was worried about the safety of pedestrians.  “Actually crossing the streets is very dangerous because of the big things of snow,” Kohl said.
