The final fundraising totals are in from the 5% Sale held by the Wynnewood Whole Foods Market to benefit the Narberth Community Food Bank on
Jan. 9, and the effort was a record-setter.
“We raised $4265 – our most successful 5% Day ever,” wrote Ruth Harp, Marketing Team Leader for the Wynnewood Whole Foods Market, in an email to Patch.
According to Gigi Tevlin-Moffit of the Narberth Community Food Bank, the food bank would be hard-pressed to help all those it does without the support of Whole Foods Market.
“We would not be able to continue without their support,” she said. “(Whole Foods) came out to us right away, realized there was a need in the community, and talked with us about what we do and what our goals are.”
She said that the Wynnewood store was the very first business to offer the food bank food support and the first to offer the food bank financial support in any way.
“We are so thankful that Whole Foods and the other great leaders in the community - such as Giant and The Greeks and so many others - that want to end this problem (of hunger) in Lower Merion and Narberth and beyond. “
She went on to describe the attitude of the surrounding business community as generous and caring.
“There is no way that we would be able to help as many people as we do if it was not for the care and support of these community members,” Tevlin-Moffit said. “We have nothing but fantastic things to say about Whole Foods and we are endlessly grateful for their consideration in helping us with our goal.”
