Five Inches of Snow Delay Lower Merion Schools 2 Hours; Most Roads Reasonably Clear

Many students in the Philadelphia region have off Wednesday.

Most major roads, including City Avenue, Montgomery Avenue and Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) were mostly clear of snow by Wednesday afternoon.

Some roads in Narberth, Belmont Hills and residential Penn Valley had white patches and slushy patches in the morning, requiring more caution, especially around turns. In many cases, the roads improved by midday.

Lower Merion public schools opened two hours late. Several private schools did likewise.

The National Weather Service measured 5.4 inches of snow in Wynnewood at 6:25 a.m. No more snow is forecast until Monday evening, according to the weather service.

SEPTA's No. 44 bus line will stay on Montgomery Avenue in both directions, rather than diverting to make stops in Narberth as it usually does, the agency announced Wednesday morning.

Despite four snow storms this season, the Lower Merion School District has not canceled any school days.

The township declared a snow emergency at 6 p.m. Tuesday, which obligates residents not to park on snow routes or at the ends of cul-de-sacs.

Garbage and recycling collection throughout the township is suspended for Wednesday as truck drivers help clear roads, Public Works Director Don Cannon said.

The storm Dec. 26-27 measured 11 inches, and last Friday and Saturday combined for a little more than 3 inches, according to the weather service's spotting station in Wynnewood.
