Tires Dumped on Schuylkill Expressway Ramp to Penn Valley's Hollow Road

A Gladwyne resident spotted the tires Tuesday.

Gladwyne resident Adam Fried saw several piles of tires dumped illegally on the Gladwyne off-ramp (to Hollow Road in Penn Valley) of the Schuylkill Expressway on Tuesday.

Fried said the dumping there has been an ongoing problem, adding that more than 90 tires were picked up there during this year's annual .

Fried said he's been in touch about the problem with Lower Merion Ward 2 (Gladwyne and Penn Valley) Commissioner Jenny Brown, who said she's been in touch with Lower Merion Police and the Lower Merion Public Works Department.

Lower Merion Police Capt. Bill Boegly said Wednesday morning that dumping and littering are illegal. While he said the Gladwyne off-ramp is the responsibility of State Police and PennDOT, he said residents can call Lower Merion police at 610-649-1000 with any questions or concerns and they will follow up.

Boegly said PennDOT was last contacted by the public works department July 28 and would be contacted again today.

PennDOT Press Officer Charles Metzger said Wednesday afternoon not everything from maintenance goes through the press office but said dumped tires can pose a hazard to drivers if the tires roll into the road. Metzger said he would make sure someone from PennDOT checks it out and removes them if they had not already been removed.
