It will be a completely different shopping experience at the Exton Square Mall on Monday, November 5, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., when representatives from over 200 colleges nationwide gather for the 2012 Chester County College Fair. Prospective students and their parents can travel from Villanova University to Virginia Tech in just a few short steps, completing a cross-country higher education tour in a matter of hours as they navigate the college and university booths.
Coordinated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU), the fair is open to the general public and admission is free. More than 2,000 students from 45 area high schools are expected to visit the fair and “shop” their post-graduation options.
Students and parents are invited to meet with representatives from colleges and universities across the United States, as well as nursing schools, junior colleges, community and technical colleges, trade and skill schools and branches of the military service. In addition to discussing entrance requirements, financial aid, campus life and academic programs with the counselors, participants will also walk away with informational brochures and catalogs.
According to Jennifer Shealy, CCIU special events coordinator, there will be something for everyone at the fair, from four-year and two-year colleges, to specialized schools.
“The fair will feature over 200 colleges and institutions from across the country, saving families time and money on college visits and helping students to narrow down their top choices,” said Shealy. “Additionally, students and families will have the unique opportunity to visit with career and technical schools such as the Automotive Training Center, the Art Institute, and the CCIU Practical Nursing Program, as well as with representatives from the armed forces.”
Participating in this year’s fair will be hundreds of colleges, including: Duquesne University, University of Delaware, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, University of Scranton and Manhattan College.
Among the participating local colleges and universities are: Saint Joseph’s University, Villanova University, Delaware County Community College, Immaculata University, West Chester University, Temple University, Ursinus College and Cabrini College.
Representatives from more distant institutions will also be present, including: The Catholic University of America, Washington and Lee University, Virginia Tech, University of Notre Dame, North Carolina State University, The University of Tampa, and Coastal Carolina University.
Also, be sure to visit Five Guys Burgers & Fries between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., as 10% of their sales will be donated to support future Chester County College Fairs.
The College Fair is organized by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) on behalf of the guidance counselors of Chester County.
