"How to Care for Aging Parents" - A FREE Seminar with Dinner and a National Speaker

Symphony Square Senior Living hosts this valuable information for adult children who face the emotional, physical and financial challenges of caring for an elderly loved one. Monday, September 9 - includes dinner


Joan Roche, Ph.D., MS, RN, CS, a professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will be the featured presenter at “How to Care for Aging Parents,” a complimentary educational seminar presented by Symphony Square Senior Living on September 8 and 9, 2013 at the residence at 35 Old Lancaster Road, Bala Cynwyd, 19004. 

Seating is limited and reservations are required by calling 610-660-6560. Symphony Square is one of the only area assisted living residences fully licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

The range of topics to be covered includes:

  • How to recognize signs of deteriorating health or frailty
  • How to talk to parents about health and safety concerns
  • A guide to understanding the stages of Alzheimer’s and care giving for a loved one with changes in their cognitive functioning
  • Evaluating the varied care options, from home-care, to assisted living and skilled nursing and how to determine the most appropriate care and support option
  • Dispelling myths about assisted living
  • A little-known tax free pension available to help qualified veterans and their surviving spouses pay for medical care
  • Options for moderate income individuals to afford assisted living

Featured speaker Dr. Joan Roche is a Board Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gerontological Nursing. She has published numerous articles on nursing education and has spoken on aging and health care matters before consumer and provider groups nationwide. Currently, Dr. Roche is Chair of the Evaluation Committee for a nationwide Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to improve care transition in health care.
