Local Libraries Carry Controversial Books

The American Library Association has released its 2011 list of the 10 most frequently challenged library books.

The American Library Association recently released its annual list (for 2011) of the most challenged books of the year, meaning the books most often targeted for removal from one public shelf or another. Nine of the top 10 are available locally from the collections of the , and libraries.

(Note: Though its materials are available through other branches, the Bala Cynwyd branch is closed all year for renovations)

It belies belief that these books are objected to. "My Mom's Having a Baby..." - Good grief! Interesting that of the books objected to only one lists "violence". Violence is more tolerated than sex, nudity and language.

I'm not familiar with the Lauren Myracle books. The titles are certainly modern, but are the stories good?
