Search for Missing Devereux Resident Ends in Philadelphia

The search for a missing Berwyn man with intellectual disabilities ended Wednesday night in Philadelphia.

Easttown Police Chief David Obzud tells Patch that Jose Denin, 43, was found in the Third Police District in Philadelphia Wednesday night.  No additional information about how and exactly where the man was located was immediately available.

Denin is a resident at the Devereux campus in Berwyn.  He was last believed to have been seen Tuesday morning possibly boarding a Philadelphia-bound SEPTA Regional Rail train at the Berwyn train station.

Easttown Police were contacted by Devereux Tuesday morning during the beginning of the snow storm when Dedin who Devereux's Pennsylvania Executive Director for Adult Services Judy Lau says is free to come and go, was discovered missing.

Devereux officials declined to detail what circumstances prompted the initial search for Dedin.  Devereux officials were reportedly canvasing businesses in the area near the Devereux campus off Leopard Road between Lancaster Ave and Sugartown Road looking for him as the snow storm started Tuesday morning.

Late Wednesday afternoon before Dedin was located, Lau sent the following statement to TE Patch in response to questions about Dedin's disappearance and the search to find him.

"While he is an independent adult and can choose to leave the cottage when he wishes, we are very concerned about him, and especially because of this terrible weather. We are working closely with the local police, who have been wonderful, as has our community who are being very supportive in the search. We're doing everything we can think of to find Jose and bring him home safely."

Prior to being found Wednesday night Easttown Police said Desdin might have been heading toward Lansdale in Montgomery County. Because of privacy laws Devereux's Director said she could not comment on the possible connection to Lansdale.

After a request from Easttown Police to post a photo and information about the search, Patch sites throughout the Philadelphia region posted stories.

A Narberth-Bala Cynwyd Patch reader commented on the article detailing Dedin's disappearance, stating that she had seen Dedin Tuesday around lunch time "at UPENN in the Perelman Center, where I work. I had a brief interaction with him before a PENN security officer came to assist. I called Easttown police and they are following up with UPENN security/police."

More information about how Denin was found is expected to be released Thursday morning.
