Philadelphia Man Charged With Bala Cynwyd Burglary

Derrick Carter, 33, has been charged with a string of burglaries committed between December 2011 and November 2012.

A Philadelphia man suspected of committing a string of burglaries in southeastern Pennsylvania has been charged with a Bala Cynwyd burglary—and more Lower Merion charges may be coming, Lower Merion Police Superintendent Michael McGrath told commissioners at a Police Committee meeting Wednesday night.

Derrick Carter, 33, of Philadelphia, is charged with burglary and theft by unlawful taking, both felonies, related to a Nov. 21 burglary on the 200 block of Garnet Lane in Bala Cynwyd, according to court documents.

The arrest was the culmination of an investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies in the area, and charges against Carter have been filed by three different counties, McGrath said. The charges relate to burglaries that occurred between December 2011 and November 2012.

Carter is being held in Philadelphia and is awaiting transfer to Montgomery County, where the charges against him will be consolidated, McGrath said.
