Burglary, Pickpocket Reported in Bala Cynwood

A robbery and theft at Lord & Taylor also were investigated by police this week. Read all the details below:

  • Lower Merion police are investigating a burglary on the 100 block of Union Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, reported 11:44 p.m. Oct. 13. Police said the owner returned at 11:15 p.m. to find a rear door had been forced, and discovered jewelry missing from a bedroom.
  • Lower Merion police say a customer at the Corner Bakery, 153 East City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, reported that her wallet was stolen Oct. 7. According to police, the woman said she sat at a booth with her pruse next to her for about an hour, and when she went to leave she thought her purse felt light. She discovered her wallet was missing, police said, and her credit cards already had been used. The complainant told police that a pregnant woman sat behind her for a short time and then left.
  • Lower Merion police say someone stole tools from a truck parked on the 100 block of Pencoyd Avenue in Bala Cynwyd at 4:52 a.m. on Oct. 11. According to police, someone took power tools from a 2000 Chevy truck. Police said the victim told police that he parked his locked and undamaged truck at 6 p.m. Oct. 10. The next day he went to his truck and found a door open and the tools were missing. He then noticed that the passenger-side window was damaged. An unknown tool had been used to enter the car and unlock the door.
  • Lower Merion police are investigating a strong-armed robbery and theft at the Lord and Taylor store in Bala Cynwyd at 2:42 p.m. Oct. 12. Various items of clothing valued at $1,066 were taken by an unidentified woman. Authorities began watching the woman because she began to act in a suspicious manner. For example, she took clothing items without looking at the sizes. Police said the woman was observed taking clothing into a fitting room where she removed the anti-theft devices. She then took the clothing and left the store. As she got into a vehicle, the store’s loss-prevention employees tried to stop her. However, a passenger got out of the car and began fighting with the loss prevention officers. The driver then drove away from the store at a high rate of speed. A loss-prevention employee sustained a small scratch to the eye. The first suspect was described as a black female in her mid-40s. She was approximately 140 pounds. The second suspect was described as a black female with short hair.
