Car Stolen From Firestone Bay, Police Say

It happened early Saturday morning, investigators believe.

A 1993 black Honda Accord was stolen last week from the City Avenue Firestone by driving the vehicle through a glass bay door, police said.

A caller working next door reported the damage to police at 1:55 a.m. on Jan. 26, telling them that it looked like someone had smashed a car through the bay door of the building at 31 W. City Ave., according to the report.

Upon arriving, police determined that the burglar had gained access by removing part of a catalytic converter from the trash and hurling it through a bay door. Then, it appears the actor found the keys to the vehicle and drove it out through the other bay door without opening it, knocking the door off the tracks and damaging it significantly, police said.

Officers then searched the area for a vehicle with significant damage to the front and sides.

The shop owner was contacted, and he told police that the shop at closed at 8:30 p.m. the night before and he had received a call from the security company at 1:30 a.m., but had thought that the alarm system was malfunctioning because of the snow, and so police weren’t contacted, according to the report.

Similar incidents have occurred recently in Upper Darby and Haverford, according to police.
