'Contractor' Burglars Trick Victim in Bala Cynwyd, Police Say
One man convinced a Highland Circle homeowner to get him a glass of water while an apparent accomplice, police were told, took $500 worth of jewelry.
A Bala Cynwyd resident gave a thirsty man a glass of water and was rewarded by losing $500 worth of jewelry, Lower Merion police said Monday.
The burglary was reported at 5:15 p.m. July 24, on the 100 block of Highland Circle, across from Bala Cynwyd Library. The resident told police a man rang the doorbell and identified himself as a contractor working in a neighbor's yard. He said he needed permission to remove tree limbs from the resident's property, too.
The man asked to come in for a glass of water, and the resident let him in. After he left, the resident discovered jewelry missing from the master bedroom, police said.
