Lower Merion Police Employee Suspended

A member of the Lower Merion Police Department will be suspended for a day, Lower Merion Police Superintendent Michael McGrath said during a meeting of the Board of Commissioners Police Committee on Wednesday night.

McGrath said a personnel matter which was discussed by commissioners in executive session will result in a one-day suspension.

When Patch asked McGrath for more information about the suspension, McGrath said he could not provide any because it is a personnel matter.

During his superintendent’s report, McGrath told the committee that the probationary phase for police recruits is continuing and at the Board of Commissioner’s Dec. 21 meeting, the board will be asked to “fill an undetermined number of vacancies in the police department.”

McGrath also talked about car thefts during his report.

There have been four cars stolen from the township during the last four or five days and “every single one” involved a car which the owner had left unattended with the keys in the ignition and the motor running, McGrath said.

McGrath urged residents not to leave their cars running when they are unattended.
