Nun Tips Cops to Serial Thief's Van, Police Say

Narberth police said the same man shoplifted from Rite Aid twice in five days.

The same man stole hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from the Montgomery Avenue Rite Aid in two thefts last week, according to Narberth Police Department Sgt. Bob Yantorno.

Video surveillance revealed that on March 20, a man walked into the 640 Montgomery Avenue Rite Aid, filled up a basket with items, and walked out without paying for any of them, Yantorno said.

On March 24, police believe the same man entered the same store and asked the clerk for about 20 packs of cigarettes. The clerk asked for $218, at which point the man smiled, ran out the door with the bag of cigarettes and jumped into a van, Yantorno said.

A quick-thinking nun got the license plate number of the van, which she turned over to police. The van is listed as stolen out of Chalfont, PA, according to Yantorno.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on these incidents can contact Narberth Police Department at their non-emergency number: 610-664-8160.
