Police Blotter: Another Failed Retail Theft on City Avenue

The following crimes and incidents happened last week, according to Lower Merion police.

Theft: Police reported a theft from a township vehicle on April 25 that occurred sometime between April 21 and 25. The vehicle was at the Lower Merion Township Waste Transfer Station on Woodbine Avenue in Penn Valley when the theft occurred. A set of rear strobe lights, overhead lights, a back rack, work gloves and eye goggles were stolen from a Ford F-350 vehicle. Police said a toolbox on the truck was pried open.

Theft: A theft that occurred between March 7 and March 11 from a home on the unit block of Madison Avenue in Bala Cynwyd was reported April 25. Police said jewelry, including gold chains, was stolen from the home. No estimated value for the jewelry was available.

Theft: A boys’ bicycle was stolen from the 100 block of Old Lancaster Road in Bala Cynwyd April 26. Police said the bike was parked unlocked outside of the Bala Cynwyd Library between 6:45 p.m. and 7:20 p.m., when it was found missing. It is a 20-inch black, white and orange boys’ bike.

Retail theft: Police said a retail theft was attempted about 11:30 a.m. April 27 at the Lord and Taylor in Bala Cynwyd. Police responded to a report of a shoplifter in custody, adding store security caught a woman trying to steal $496 worth of merchandise. Police said the woman was observed taking clothing and concealing it in her purse. Florence Pugh, 41, of the 6000 block of N. 12th Street in Philadelphia was arrested and charged with a third degree felony of retail theft. Pugh has had three prior convictions, police said. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Burglary: Police said more than $10,000 in jewelry was taken from a home on the unit block of Derwen Road on Bala Cynwyd between 6:15 p.m. and 11:05 p.m. April 29. The residents had gone out for the evening and returned home to find the front door standing open and several jewelry boxes on the steps, police said, adding there had been ransacking in the bedrooms.
