Police Blotter: DUI Arrest in Cemetery, Theft Try at Staples

A 27-year-old Penn Valley resident was arrested in Westminster Cemetery for driving under the influence before dawn Monday, Jan. 17, township police said.

An officer saw a pickup truck cross briefly into the opposing lane about 3:25 a.m. at Belmont Avenue and Jefferson Street, near the Schuylkill Expressway interchange. When the officer followed, the pickup sped up and turned into the cemetery parking lot before pulling over.

The officer asked Andrew Ammon, of the 500 block of Gordon Avenue, whether had been drinking.

"Not enough," Ammon replied, according to police.

After his breath test registered a blood alcohol content of 0.15, Ammon was charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Police also reported an attempted theft from the Staples on Montgomery Avenue in Penn Valley.

About 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, employees noticed three pairs of headphones were missing, and when they questioned one customer, he started to run.

A store employee tackled the man, who dropped the headphones, got up and ran away, police said. Witnesses could not describe him in detail. The headphones were worth about $400 combined.

Police also reported Lance Williams, 28, of Springton Road in Belmont Hills was arrested for public intoxication about 2:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, after police encountered him walking on Belmont Avenue near Belmont Terrace.
