Police Blotter: Haverford Man Charged With Assault at Bala Cynwyd Home

Lower Merion police reported the following Bala Cynwyd-area recent incidents to news media Monday afternoon:

  • Theft: Police said two bicycles were stolen sometime between July 23 and July 26 from the unit block of Oakland Terrace in Bala Cynwyd. One bicycle, a teal hybrid-style mountain bike with knobby tires, was valued at $200, and the other was valued at $350. The bicycles were stored on a screened-in porch, police said.
  • Simple assault: Police responded to a domestic dispute at about 6 p.m. July 27 on the 700 block of Fordham Road in Bala Cynwyd.
    When officers arrived, they observed a man bleeding from his face. Police arrested a second man, David Schwadron, 42, of the 400 block of W. Lancaster Avenue in Haverford and charged him with simple assault, a second degree misdemeanor and with harassment, police said.
    The incident occurred at Schwadron's ex-wife's house, police said.
    Schwadron was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Henry Schireson and was released on his own recognizance on $5,000 unsecured bail, on the condition he had no contact with his victim or with his ex-wife, police said.
  • Attempted burglary: Police said there was an attempted burglary at the on Montgomery Avenue in Penn Valley sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. July 28.
    Someone broke a rear window and tried to force open the door but was unsuccessful, police said. It appears the would-be burglar was cut on the glass trying to get in, police said, adding that evidence was collected and an investigation is ongoing.
  • Theft: A woman shopping at in Bala Cynwyd at 11:50 a.m. July 29 had several bags of recently purchased merchandise from various Lower Merion stores stolen from her car in the Lord & Taylor parking lot, police said.
    The victim saw a man and a woman watching her enter the store and believes they may have been the ones to steal the items from her car, police said.
    Stolen were a brand new Hobo handbag, a Cuisinart bathroom scale and an iPod adapter, valued at $250, police said. The victim believes she may have left her car unlocked, as there were no signs of force, police said.
