Police Blotter: More Burglaries, Thefts From Cars

The following information has been supplied by the Lower Merion Police Department. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

On Monday afternoon,  reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Narberth and Bala Cynwyd.

Theft: A black gym bag, wallet, cell phone, GPS and EZ-Pass were stolen from a car on the 300 block of South Woodbine Avenue in Penn Valley sometime overnight from July 25 to 26, police said. A neighbor stopped at the resident’s house in the morning saying she had found a wallet while walking her dog, police said. The resident then checked the unlocked car parked in the open garage to find other items missing, police said.

Attempted burglary: Pry marks were found on a rear sliding door of a house on the unit block of West Levering Mill Road in Bala Cynwyd on July 26, police said. The home had already been broken into on June 3, and the homeowner found new damage July 26, police said. It appears no one was able to enter the home this week, police said.

Burglary: Police responded to the 100 block of Birch Road in Bala Cynwyd at 10:30 a.m. July 29 on a report of a burglary, police said. The homeowner had been on vacation and said jewelry boxes should have been there, police said. Pry marks were found on a first-floor door, police said. Upon searching the area, police found an open door at a neighboring house. That house had also been ransacked, and $100 in gold cuff links were reported missing; more jewelry could have been taken, but residents were not yet sure, police said.

Theft: Credit cards and $50 in cash were stolen from a victim shopping at the Bala Cynwyd about 1:14 p.m. July 29, police said. The victim put her handbag down while paying and started putting bags in her cart, police said. When she got to her vehicle, she noticed her handbag was open and found she was missing credit cards and $50 in cash. Video surveillance shows a black man, between 30 and 35 years old and between 5-feet-11 and 6 feet tall, put his hand into the woman’s handbag while she was putting bags into her cart, police said.

Retail theft: A bottle of Jack Daniels green label, valued at $39.99, was stolen from on City Avenue about 3:29 p.m. July 29, police said. Video surveillance shows the woman putting the bottle in a backpack and continuing to browse the store pretending to shop, police said. An employee confronted her, and she left and got into a pickup truck that was last seen heading west on Maple Avenue, police said.

Theft: A pack of cigarettes were stolen from the in Bala Cynwyd about 11:23 p.m. July 29, police said. A man entered the store, asked for a pack of Newport cigarettes and then grabbed them and ran out of the store, police said. The man was last seen running south on City Avenue toward , police said. The cigarettes were valued at $6.29.
