Police Blotter: Man Arrested in Robbery Near Bala Avenue Park

A 19-year-old Philadelphia man was arrested Thursday night on robbery charges after an attack near  in Bala Cynwyd, Lower Merion police said Monday.

Police were called about 7 p.m. after a report of two men forcibly taking a purse, containing a cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash, from a woman walking on Bala Avenue.

As officers searched the area, a Balwyn Place homeowner alerted police to a suspicious man in his back yard who said he needed a taxi, police said.

Police arriving at the home found a man matching a suspect's description, holding the purse. Ernest McCollom of the 1900 block of N. 54th Street was arrested, and he was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail, police said.

No other suspect was apprehended.
