Man Drove Drunk on 3 Tires in Penn Valley, Police Say

On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bala Cynwyd, Belmont Hills and Penn Valley:

DUI: A man driving down Hagys Ford Road with a tire missing was arrested and charged early Saturday morning for driving under the influence. At 1:25 a.m. on June 16, an officer driving down Hagys Ford Road saw a vehicle traveling down the road in the opposite direction, moving quickly and emitting sparks and a loud screeching sound, police said.  According to the report, the officer stopped the car on Conshohocken Road and saw that one of the front tires was missing and the driver had been driving on the rim. The 44-year-old driver was arrested and brought back to headquarters, where he registered 0.20 on a blood alcohol content test, according to the report. He will be charged with driving under the influence, police said.

DUI: Police stopped a car at the intersection of Presidential Boulevard and Monument Road at 12:55 a.m. on Saturday morning when a woman was seen driving a car without headlights on, according to the police report. The driver, a 36-year-old Bala Cynwyd resident, failed a field sobriety test and was arrested and brought back to police headquarters, where she registered 0.19 on a blood alcohol content test, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence, according to the report.

Public drunkenness: A drunk 25-year-old woman allegedly refusing to leave a taxi cab was cited for public drunkenness on June 13 at the Belmont Avenue station, police said. At 11:53 p.m. on June 13, police responded to a taxi driver's complaint that a drunk woman was refusing to leave his cab, according to the police report. The woman had climbed into the cab and demanded to be taken to Philadelphia, police said, and when the cab driver told her he was already en route to pick up another customer, she refused to get out. Police took her back to police headquarters, where she was cited for public intoxication, according to the police report.

Public drunkenness: Monday morning at 1:40 a.m., an officer conducting a check of the saw a van parked in the corner of the lot and found a 60-year-old Bala Cynwyd man inside, according to the police report. The man told the officer he was sleeping in the van due to his intoxicated state, police said; an open bottle of Yuengling was found in the car. The man was arrested and charged with public drunkenness, according to the police report.
