Police Blotter: Thefts and Burglaries in Bala and Narberth

Retail theft

On Dec. 13, shortly before 3 p.m., a woman was arrested at the Lord & Taylor on City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd for attempting to shoplift jewelry and a purse valued at $359, police said. Charged was Shakenna Hopkins, 19, of the 5600 block of Litchfield Street in Philadelphia, who was observed by store security personnel attempting to conceal items beneath her shirt. Hopkins was stopped while trying to flee the store, and was arrested by Lower Merion Police upon their arrival. She was released on her own recognizance after posting $5,000 bail, police said.

Vehicle theft
On Dec. 15, at 8:16 a.m., a 2012 Acura MDX—unlocked, with the keys in the ignition and running—was stolen while the driver was inside the in Narberth, police said.
Theft from vehicle
Cash and coins were stolen from an unlocked 2010 Toyota Prius on the 400 block of Anthwyn Lane in Narberth on Dec. 17, police said. The theft was reported at noon that day.
On Dec. 18, a car was reported burglarized on the 100 block of Maple Avenue in Bala Cynwyd. Taken was a backpack that contained cash, a laptop computer and other items, police said. The car was parked from 9 p.m. the night before, and was unlocked.
Attemped burglary
A home alarm system apparently scared away an intruder on Dec. 15 after the window in a rear door was shattered in an attempt to enter a home on the 300 block of Kent Road in Bala Cynwyd, police said.
