Police: Man Claims He's Armed, Steals Seafood from Bala Cynwyd Acme

About $42 in merchandise was stolen, Lower Merion police said.

A man stealing seafood from the grocery store in Bala Cynwyd Saturday told an employee who confronted him, "I have a weapon," as he fled the store, Lower Merion police said Monday.

A balding black male weighing about 240 pounds and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans had grabbed about $42 worth of shrimp, crab and other searfood about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, police told reporters.

After threatening the employee, he fled the store. No one was hurt, but the suspect was not apprehended.

An officer declined to say whether the employee who confronted the man was a security guard. It was not clear where in the store the confrontation happened.

An Acme manager reached by phone Monday afternoon declined to comment.
