Two Bala Cynwyd Homes Burglarized

The homes were hit in tandem over the weekend, according to Lower Merion Police.

A burglar, or team of burglars, robbed a pair of Bala Cynwyd homes over the weekend, Lower Merion Police reported.

According to the department, both of the burglaries were of homes on the 30 block of Chestnut Avenue. Multiple pieces of jewelry were taken from both homes. In each case, police believe the burglar(s) used a pillowcase to remove the haul.

At 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, Lower Merion Police received a report of the first theft. The homeowner told police that he and his wife had left the house at 1 p.m. on Saturday, securing the windows and doors before leaving, and when they returned that morning they found some of their personal affects scattered in their front lawn.

The victims found pry marks on the door frame of their front door—which they had difficulty entering because the perpetrator(s) had wedged a dining room chair against it—and also discovered that their back door was ajar.

Several rooms of the house had been ransacked and many pieces of jewelry—including rings, bracelets, necklaces, and costume jewelry—had been taken.

Police conducted a neighborhood check, but nothing was recovered.

At 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, police were again called to the neighborhood for another report of a burglary. The residents of the home in question said that they had been gone since Friday, and when they returned to their home they noticed the doors of their dining room dresser flung open and saw that their rear sliding glass door was open as well. Police said jewelry and silverware were found missing from the home.

Lower Merion Police are operating under the assumption that both crimes were carried out by the same burglar(s) and are investigating the incidents.
