Lower Merion police relayed the following incidents to news media on Monday. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.
Burglary: A burglary was reported in a unit of a commercial building on the 200 block of St. Asaphs Road in Bala Cynwyd on Dec. 17 at 10:12 a.m., police said. Review of surveillance tapes showed that on Dec. 15 at 18:14, a black male in his 20s or 30s, with medium build exited the elevators of the office building carrying two backpacks. The man was wearing grey sweatpants and a light-colored shirt, police said. No items have been reported missing, according to the police report.
Burglary: A $500 Samsung video recorder was reported stolen from a unit on the 200 block of St. Asaphs Road at 4:16 p.m. on Dec. 17, police said. A locksmith said the lock had been tampered with, according to police.
Burglary attempt: Police responded to a report of an attempted burglary on the unit block of Monument Road on Dec. 18 at 10:24 a.m. There were pry markers on a metal door frame, but it appears no entry was gained, police said.
DUI: A 22-year-old West Chester man was cited for driving under the influence last week. Police responded on report of a vehicle being driven recklessly near Montgomery Avenue and Tregaron Road in Bala Cynwyd. After police pulled the vehicle over for driving recklessly, the driver registered .195 on an RBT test, police said.
Theft: A black Columbia winter coat worth $100 was stolen from an apartment on the 1000 block of W Lancaster Ave. in Bryn Mawr between Dec. 15 and Dec. 20, police said.
Simple assault: Two brothers, a 45-year-old man and a 47-year-old man from the unit block of Rittenhouse Place in Ardmore, were arrested Dec. 17 for simple assault, police said. The victim told police that on Dec. 16 around 9 p.m., he ran into an old friend and the 45-year-old man, who he didn’t know. The second man invited the victim to his residence, where he consumed alcohol, police said. Around 2 a.m., another resident of the apartment kicked the victim out of the house without his belongings; when the victim knocked on the door to retrieve his belongings, the two brothers punched the victim in his face, knocked him down a flight of steps and continued to assault him outside their apartment complex, police said.
Vehicle theft: A white 2000 Volkswagen Passat went missing from the 200 block of Edgemont Rd. in Ardmore between 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 and 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 17, police said. The doors of the vehicle were locked and the victim had the only keys, according to the report.
DUI: A 21-year-old St. Joseph’s University student was cited for driving under the influence after she was observed driving on the metal rim of her vehicle on Linden Lane near Sycamore Avenue in Merion Station, police said. The driver registered .184 on a blood alcohol content test, police said.
Simple assault: A 31-year-old construction worker was arrested Dec. 20 at Lankenau Hospital, after allegedly knocking another construction worker unconscious for parking too close to his truck, police said. After arriving at work around 7:50 a.m. Dec. 20, the victim parked in a designated construction vehicle area, at which point the 31-year-old construction worker cursed at the victim and demanded he move his truck, police said. When the victim told the other worker that he was parked within the lines, the other construction worker punched the victim in the face until he lost consciousness, according to the report. The assaulting worker then moved his truck one spot over and went to work. When the victim came to, he told his supervisor what had happened and pointed out the second worker, who was still on location. The attacker told police he had struck the victim, but did it because he felt threatened, according to the report.
