Christmas Tree Collection Extended; Recycling Pickup Rescheduled

Several snowstorms have changed Lower Merion Township's plans.

Lower Merion Township's municipal government announced Wednesday afternoon two adjustments in this month's plans for picking up Christmas trees and recycling.

The Shade Tree Division originally was going to collect trees at curbside only in the first two weeks of January, but the seemingly endless string of snowstorms, minor or not, has disrupted scheduled pickups. Collection will now continue throughout the month, said Don Cannon, director of public works.

Residents whose recycling was not collected Jan. 12 because of the storm that day can instead have their items picked up Wednesday, Jan. 26.

"The decision to suspend last Wednesday's trash and recycling collection was so that our crews could aggressively address road clearing, removal of snow in parking lots and sidewalk shoveling," Cannon said. "We regret the inconvenience, and as a reminder, trash can collection limits were waived this week."

Residents can drop off garbage and recyclables during the day at the transfer station, at 1300 N. Woodbine Ave. in Penn Valley. Those with questions about refuse policies can call 610-667-1952.
