The Week Ahead: 5 Things to Know

A heads up for those who live or work in Narberth, Bala Cynwyd, Belmont Hills and Penn Valley.

  1. PennDOT highway sweeping will mean intermittent closures of the right shoulders in both directions of the Schuylkill Expressway, between the Conshohocken and City Avenue interchanges, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday this week.
  2. Monday at 6:30 p.m., Lower Merion's Planning Commission will tackle a few agenda items relevant to other parts of the township before engaging in a discussion about the proposed 580-apartment development at the river end of Righters Ferry Road. The proposal is contingent on a legal settlement that is pending Board of Commissioners approval, something that was . The commission also will hear an update on the City Avenue rezoning ordinance the commissioners passed in December, though not without anticipating amendments.
  3. Also Monday, at 8 p.m., the will meet, still short-handed at six members after Surge Ghosh's resignation Jan. 2. 
  4. Tuesday evening will feature - showdowns in boys' and girls' varsity basketball. The girls tip off at 6 p.m., the boys at 7:30 p.m., both at Lower Merion High School's gym.
  5. Lower Merion schools are being dismissed early Friday afternoon, and members of the community are invited to LMHS for service projects in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
