The bridge was built in 1902 and it is showing its age. Shortly after the closing, the bridge was .  There was some optimism that temporary repairs could be made to the bridge that would permit is to be opened to vehicular traffic within a few weeks rather than months. It has been four weeks since its initial closing and there are no signs that repairs have started.

Our comments here and accompanying as captions to photographs are based upon visual observation only. We do not purport to have any expertise when it comes to such matters. Our goal is to give you a look at things as they were on Friday, Oct. 7.

After getting a close up look and taking the photographs in the gallery I felt very secure in walking across the bridge. So secure, in fact, that I would drive over it, if they would let me, but they won't and I am sure that is for good reason.
